Hello, my name is Jade Garstang and I am currently a student at Bournemouth University studying BA (HONS) Digital Media Design. As a person I have always lived by three character traits; creative, organised and determined. After studying A-Levels I wanted to develop my skills in the digital media world, so I made a decision to undertake a degree that would provide me with start of my working journey. As the ‘digital world’ is ever evolving, I believe that there is so much potential in terms of what I can achieve in this field.
Ever since I was young I have had a keen interest in new technologies and the latest gadgets. I have studied IT for many years now and I find the creative aspects captivating therefore I am hopefully during my time at university to build upon the skills and creative techniques already gained.
During my time at secondary school I was taught the importance of commitment for achieving personal goals, no matter how long or how much work they might take. Being part of my school’s Combined Cadet Force also taught me many invaluable life skills such as leadership, responsibility and a sense of confidence in myself to achieve the goals that are most important to me in life.
In the future I wish to pursue a career in graphic design which will allow me to incorporate my passion for creativity. My hope is that I will be able to gain the skills needed for this during my time at university, so that one day I can be successful in the subject of which I have always been interested and fascinated by.
Throughout this blog I aim to discuss and reflect on what I get up too on my journey to becoming a digital media designer, both through what I learn on the course and also what I discover about myself in this field along the journey. I will also discuss a range of current digital media debates that we are facing in the world today.
