Censorship in the UK

PM David Cameron, since the London Riots back in 2011, has suggested that the UK government should be able to censor various social media websites to “stop [alleged rioters] from communicating via these websites” to others during such times. The current government is currently considering a range of laws that would ultimately restrict online privacy and freedom of speech.

The most controversial plan would allow the government to monitor every email, text message and phone calls. Internet service providers would be made to install hardware that would give law enforcement real time, on-demand access to every internet user’s IP address, email address books, when and to whom individuals are contacting and how frequently they occurred.
